What is an Independent Living Community?

Independent living is about LIFESTYLE. Independent living/retirement communities are for adults who want to enjoy the benefits of an active, independent lifestyle, in a community where their neighbors are of the same age range and have similar interest. Independent living communities provide the best of both worlds: private living along with optional communal activities and services. Independent living communities remove the responsibility of home maintenance yet provide a range of social, educational and leisure activities.

How many apartments are there in Southwinds?

At Southwinds, there are 200 apartments with a mix of studios, 1, 2 and 3 bedroom floorplans including 3 bedrooms with Dens.

Are residents required to buy into the community?

No, Southwinds is offered as a market-rate rental community. We offer a variety of leasing options. Short term (less than 1 year), six month, as well as one and two year leases are available.

All homes are all electric, featuring a fully equipped kitchen including microwave, garbage disposal and dishwasher. Each home has a washer/dryer, individual thermostatically controlled heating and air conditioning unit, emergency response system, neutral colored carpeting and paint, window blinds and most have large walk-in closets.

What is included in the monthly rental fee for Independent Living?

At Southwinds, your monthly rent provides a secure, worry-free and health conscious lifestyle. There are no additional fees for use of the fitness center, computer/internet, transportation (weekly shopping), weekly coffee chats, and weekly happy hours. Charges for personal phone, cable television and electric are not included in the rental rates.

At Southwinds, you don’t have to worry about mowing the grass, raking the leaves, painting the shutters, etc, you are free to enjoy each day as it comes with none of the worries of home ownership. This is the time in life where you should enjoy your family, friends, and explore new opportunities. Whether you are still employed full or part-time, or retired (no such thing) NOW IS YOUR TIME!

What kind of activities does Southwinds offer?

Southwinds offers a variety of activities. There is always something to do, from exercise classes, book discussions, shopping trips, computer classes and many more. Click here for a more complete list of Activities. (This will link to Activities page)

How often does Southwinds offer transportation?

Currently we provide transportation on Tuesday’s. This is a weekly trip to the shopping mall, supermarkets and shops of resident’s choice.

Does Southwinds have a doctor on staff/site?

No. Although Southwinds may offer flu shots and/or health screenings, etc. It is offered as a convenience to the residents. No medical staff or services are offered on site.

Does Southwinds have 24 hour security?

Yes, Southwinds is equipped with closed video surveillance security on all entrances and exits. Additionally, Southwinds has emergency response systems in each apartment.
